Pressure is mounting on Malawi’s Minister of Education Emmanuel Fabiano to step down over what is being described as his failure to resolve challenges in the education sector.

Malawi has commemorated the International Literacy Day (ILD) amid high levels of illiteracy in the southern Africa nation.

Despite being well versed of the pressure, tension and challenges that parents and guardians who cannot afford to pay hiked fees will face the minister of education is adamant that the unpopular move is going to aid the development of the sector in Malawi.

The Malawi opposition believes it is paramount for the issue of the increment of secondary school fees and phasing out of the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) to be debated completely by the national assembly before the government makes a concrete solution on the matter.

Education standards are set to improve as the government of Malawi has resolved to re-introduce inspectors in the system.
