Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima is expected to finally break his silence on his political ambitions at a press conference set to take place tomorrow.
Chilima is at the centre of a wrangle in the Democratic Progressive Party-DPP, over who should be the party’s torch bearer in next year’s polls.
Some members of the party want him to represent the party next year, while others want the incumbent President Mutharika to seek a second term of office.
Former first lady Callista Mutharika was the one who first brought up the possibility of Chilima being the DPP torch bearer, and several other members have come up to endorse him for the position.
The Vice President himself however, has not commented on the matter.
His spokesperson Pilirani Phiri has told the media that Chilima will address what he calls “recent political developments”, at the conference to be held tomorrow morning in the capital Lilongwe.
