A 39 year old man in Malawi's central region district of Ntcheu is to spend 12 years behind bars for defiling his 13-year-old step daughter.

The convict, Chikumbutso Mponda pleaded guilty to charges of defilement.

State prosecutor told Magistrate Court that the accused had been defiling victim since 2014 when she was only 9 years of age.

Francis Malenga disclosed the victim was threatened never to reveal the ordeal stating she will be killed. 

The state however asked for a stiffer punishment considering that the accused is a step father who was supposed to provide enough protection and support to the victim.

And in mitigation the accused plead with court for leniency stating his wife is an orphan and that he takes care of his ill grandmother.

Passing sentence, Ntcheu first grade magistrate conquered with the state hence slapping the convict with 12 year jail term. 

Chrispin Sachuluka said despite that the accused is the first offender and pleaded guilty defilement cases are on the increase though various interventions are in place to combat such cases.

He therefore slapped the accused with 12 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour so that it may serve as a deterrent to other irresponsible step fathers in the country.

The convict hails from Gobede 1 village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu district. 

This judgement comes during the 16 days of activism against gender based violence which are currently being observed around the world and by various organisations in the country.

The Chitipa magistrate’s court has sentenced a 40 year old man to 14 years for being found guilty of defiling a 7 year old girl.

The judgement comes at a time when authorities in the northern region district raised alarm after it had been discovered that cases of defilement were on the rise, thereby posing a threat to the future of the girl child.

In the process of hearing of the case, the state prosecutor, Evance Mtepuka said such cases are becoming rampant in the district hence the accused deserving a stiffer penalty to deter would-be offenders.

Concurring with Mtepuka, first grade magistrate Billy Ngosi said such cases are not only escalating in Chitipa district but also the whole country thereby making the juveniles live in fear and trauma.

He therefore sentenced Adams Mwale to a 14 year jail term with hard labour for committing the offence.

Mwale hails from Mabuka village in Mulanje district whereas the victim who is in standard two, comes from Manase village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.

Rights Activists believe that such cases would be reduced in Malawi if civic education was intensified so to quash superstitious beliefs that sleeping with virgin girls can bring wealth.

The magistrate court in Malawi's central region district of Ntcheu has released on bail a pastor accused of defilement. 

Philip Palibe Ndipo of New Covenant Assemblies of God appeared before court on Monday morning.

He is alleged to have defiled a 10 year old epileptic girl from Kalindira village last week.

Ndipo pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him and applied for bail in which the court set conditions before granted him.

First grade magistrate Crispin Sachuluka ordered the man of the cloth to produce two surities of MK75, 000 each of which he managed to do.

Meanwhile the case returns in court on October 12, 2017 for hearing, this is the day when the state will parade its witnesses to the case.

The 50 year old clergyman is answering a case of defilement which contravenes section 138 of the Penal Code.

Officers of the Malawi Police Service in the central region district of Ntcheu have arrested a clergyman for allegedly defiling a ten-year-old girl.

They law enforcers have identified the suspect as Philip Palibe Ndipo of New Covenant Assemblies of God who is based at Kalindira village in the district.

Ntcheu Police publicist told Capital FM that the suspect a 50 year old pastor allegedly defiled the minor who is in standard 3.

Hastings Chigalu disclosed the suspect who is also a close neighbour to the family took advantage of the absence of the girl’s parents and then defiled her.

"Upon return from a borehole, the mother found the girl crying uncontrollably.

When quizzed, she revealed the name of the pastor to be been behind the ordeal," Chigalu explained.

Results of a medical examination that was done Kandeu Health Centre came positive and the victim had bruises to her private part.

Pastor Phillip Palibe Ndipo who hails from Kalindira village, Traditional Authority Njolomole in the district will appear in court soon to answer a case of defilement which contravenes section 138 of the Penal Code.

The Limbe Senior Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced a 20 year old man to 15 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for defiling a five year old girl.

Confirming the development with the Malawi News Agency, the Assistant Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police, Widson Nhlane said the accused, Nenani Brown defiled the girl in Soche Township in Blantyre.

He explained that the accused person defiled the girl in his house after taking advantage of the absence of her mother who had gone out on errands in the Township.

The victim revealed the ordeal to her neighbours who noticed that she was having difficulties walking.

The neighbours are reported to have called her mother who reported the matter to Soche Police station.

Medical examination results indicate that the girl was indeed defiled.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was slapped with a 15 year custodial sentence to act as a deterrent measure to would be culprits.
