Lab tests on a consignment of rice seized by Nigerian customs officials show that the product is "contaminated" but not plastic, the National Agency For Food and Drugs (Nafdac) says.

The Malawi government is being advised to utilize readily available resources for maize production, to cover for the shortfalls projected for the 2016/17 season.

Maize sales at the ADMARC depot in Malawi’s Northern district of Karonga on February 24th got interrupted following a commotion that ensued between police and the buyers.

President Mutharika is dismissing calls for a price restriction to be placed on maize, arguing the move would not work in a liberalized market.
