2016 UMP Fest Awards Nominees Announced

60 urban acts have been nominated in 12 categories of the 2016 UMP Festival awards set for November 6 at the BAT ground in Blantyre.

Officially made public at an event held on October 8 in Lilongwe, the nomination list is led by 27 nominations of musicians based in the city.

Dancehall musician Malinga Mafia leads the way with five followed by rappers Tay Grin and Gwamba who have been nominated four times and Phyzix who has two nominations.

The city of Blantyre, once considered as the powerhouse of entertainment in Malawi, is second with Theo Thomson and newcomer Blaze receiving three nominations each.

Dan Lu, Zani Challe and Bucci trail with two nominations apiece  

Fans will begin voting for their favourite act on October 12.

The result of the public vote which will run for three weeks will be allied with votes by a panel comprising of five judges headed by poet Q Malewezi.
