Unconfirmed reports indicate that the US Pop Star Madonna is in the country to officially open the Mercy James Paediatric Centre in Blantyre, Malawi on Tuesday.
She reportedly arrived in the country yesterday.
The state of the art Paediatric Centre is located at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Named after Madonna’s Malawi-born daughter Mercy James, is funded by her charity, Raising Malawi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
The institute, which admitted its first patients June 29, will also serve as 'a training center' for medical professionals in Southern Africa.
Apart from that, the new children’s wing will help Queen Elizabeth central hospital double the number of surgeries performed on children each year
The unit will also dedicate comfortable space for children who have to spend time in the hospital, including a playroom and an outdoor playing structure.
Mercy, 11, is one of Madonna's six children.
The singer is also a mother to Lourdes,20, Rocco Ritchie, 16, David Banda, 11, and 4-year-old twins Esther and Stella whom Madonna adopted from Malawi early this year.
