One of the country’s urban music promoters, Urban Music People (UMP) pledges continued support towards the development of the music industry in Malawi.
The UMP made the pledge at the weekend during a media launch in Blantyre.
Urban Music People recently rebranded from Urban Music Party.
Organisers of UMP, Nde’feyo Entertainment, have partnered Nzika Wear in spearheading the brand this year.
Speaking to Capital FM, Ken Limwame who is the Chief Executive Officer for Nde’Feyo Entertainment promised an event more elegant than that of the previous years.
“Unlike last year, this year’s venue will more elegant as it will e held at the Bingu international conference centre in Lilongwe.
We want music aficionados to also be a part of this event. We will be straightforward and allow them to vote for their favourite artists.
It is my wish that nominees and winners will be accepted by fans out there even in situations where the artist they were voting for does not win,” Limwame added.
This year’s awards will comprise of five categories, the media inclusive.
A total of 19 musicians will walk away with awards from various genres.
Nominations are expected to be announced on the 15th of next with the awards taking place.
Lilongwe will kick-start the festival on the 18 of November with Blantyre wrapping it up the following day.
The UMP awards, for local urban artists, started eight years ago in the country.
60 urban acts have been nominated in 12 categories of the 2016 UMP Festival awards set for November 6 at the BAT ground in Blantyre.
