Finance authorities are optimistic that cooperation partners will open up to support the implementation of Malawi’s new growth and development guideline.
This follows a high level meeting the ministry organised to engage the donors on areas they could fund, to ensure a successful implementation of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy-MDGS 3.
Among other contributing factors, economists have attributed the failure of the first two strategies to succeed to a lack of clear priorities that could move Malawi forward.
Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe stresses that development partners have a critical role to play despite the need for the country to mobilise its own resources for development.
“The world has changed, it’s not only in Malawi but the intention now is that each country has got to rely on its own resources first” he said.
Gondwe adds that “we will have to mobilize resources internally so that the development partners should just supplement us”
