This will be the first time for the capital city to host the annual event produced by the Blantyre based Entertainment Company, Ndefeyo.
With the tremendous growth and support the awards have achieved in the past two years, it is anticipated that this year the UMP festival awards and the Urban Music Party will be held separately.
In a statement that Capital FM has seen, organisers say that because of the change the awards will be held as an Evening Red Carpet event.
On the date and venue of the event they decided to remain mum.
To spice it up further four new categories have been added on the list of nominees.
This means that this year 17 urban acts will receive accolades.
The extra are Best Live Act; Best Duo/Group; Best Collaboration and Best SADC Act.
Ken Zizwa Limwame who is one of the Executive Producers of the event says the UMP Awards celebrate and promote excellence in Malawi’s urban music industry.
He adds that the UMP Awards have grown with new categories being added each year. And this year it will be a glamorous and a must-attend red carpet event.
The awards were founded by Ndefeyo Entertainment who, each year, assembles an organizing team.
They involve independent judges and the public in the selection of winners.
Last year’s UMP festival was held at the BAT Ground in Blantyre on November 6th.
It was preceded by a fashion design gala and a series of parties.
