Uladi Mussa arrested over passportgate

Written by  John Namalenga jnr Mar 06, 2017

People’s Party symphathisers, on Monday, converged at Lilongwe police station demanding the immediate release of the party’s interim leader Uladi Mussa.

He is being questioned for his alleged involvement in a passport scandal when he was Home Affairs Minister three years ago.

Mussa was handed over to the police after he appeared before the Anti corruption Bureau on Monday morning.

Officers from the ACB reveal that Mussa surrendered himself to the bureau that has been hunting for him since last week.

Last week, the bureau arrested former Chief Immigration Officer Hudson Mankhwala over the same issue.

Nearly 100 People’s Party supporters, some clothed in party regalia, stormed the Lilongwe police station chanting songs of praise to Mussa and former president Joyce Banda.

They claim that Mussa’s case is not worth for him to be taken into custody than is former Agriculture Minister, Goerge Chaponda’s case.

A Political commentator is making fresh calls for the People’s party to immediately hold a convention which would see new office bearers filling up senior positions.

This according to commentators would ensure that the party remains relevant, even in the absence of its influential leaders.

Speaking to Capital FM, a chancellor college political scientist Happy Kayuni stressed that the PP needs to quickly adapt by beefing up its leadership structure.
