Police in the district have confirmed the arrest of Constable Raphael Banda aged 36 and his accomplice a civilian Zakalia Wyson aged 24.
Ntcheu Police Spokesperson told Capital FM that the two were arrested as they were trying to rob a certain businessman at his premises located at the trading centre.
Hastings Chigalu disclosed that the suspects, three in number were in police uniforms at the time of the arrest.
"Around 2 o'clock in the wee hours of Wednesday, the suspects were tried to break into a shop and lucky enough the owner heard what was happening and woke up.”
After being quizzed on what they wanted at the premises, the suspects said that they were thirsty and looking for water to drink in the shop," Chigalu explained.
The owner of the shop then got suspicious at the responses he received and then alerted his neighbours.
As they began to manhandle the suspects one escaped from members of the community and is currently at large.
When law enforcers where notified to pick up the other two suspects, communities reacted angry hence pelted stones and injuring one officer in the process.
The two are yet to be charged on the offence.
The Constable, employment number B1490 has been working with the Malawi Police Service since 2008 and is currently stationed at Ntcheu police station.
This is not the first time a police officer has been involved in criminal activities.
In recent years, the men in uniform have been caught red handed, hence raising questions to the public considering the nature of their job of providing law and order to the citizenry.
