Thieves Strike Again In Karonga

Barely three weeks after armed robbers broke into an Airtel Malawi shop, had unknown thieves on Saturday attempted to steal from the building that houses Opportunity International Bank of Malawi (OIBM) in Karonga district.

An alarm was raised after the bandits’ attempt to steal from the bank was unsuccessful.

Law enforcers have since launched a manhunt for the suspected criminals in the district.

Meanwhile, Enock Livason who is Karonga Police Publicist has confirmed the arrest of two KK Security guards who are suspected to be in connection with the attempted crime.

Livason says the two guards were on duty on the night when the thieves broke in through the back door but did not steal anything.

According to information from the police, the two guards are Willard Kaphathengo, 26 years old from Ngayiyaye village, Traditional Authority Njolomole Ntcheu.

And the other one is Vinja Kaumba, a 31 year old male from Jumbo Village traditional authority Mwalweni, Rumphi.

 

The police force in the district have since appealed to members of the general public to report to them if they come across any suspected criminals and criminal activities that are happening in their areas.
