Officers of the Malawi Police Services are advising road users to observe road regulations at all times so to avoid accidents that continue claiming lives.

This follows an accident that left two people dead and one seriously injured.

According to the law enforcers, the accident happened on Wednesday morning along the M1 road in the district.

A bicycle taxi cyclist, who is popularly known as Kabaza, allegedly left his lane encroaching the driver’s lane.

He however failed to see the truck behind him as he was trying to avoid a vehicle that was parked on the side of the road.

He and the two passengers on his bicycle were then hit by an oncoming truck belonging to Zachilomwe Transport.

Ntcheu Police publicist Hastings Chigalu, disclosed that the two passengers, 31 year old Evelesi Tchado and her six year old son died on the spot due to head injuries and loss of blood.

The driver of the truck, 30 year old Batuwelo Mvula is currently in police custody.

Chigalu further revealed that it is worrying that in the month of January alone, road accidents have claimed six lives.

This is being attributed to failure by road users to follow road signs and regulations.
