Escalating Defilement Cases Worries Traditional Leaders

Written by  Written by Staff Reporter Feb 21, 2017

Traditional leaders continue to express concern over the increase in cases of sexual violence in the country.

The recent to express such sentiments is Group Village head Nthache of Mwanza District.

He was speaking over the weekend during a training workshop for Community Based Educators at Mphande Teacher Training center.

The training session, on tackling Gender based violence was organised by the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace through its primary Justice Project.

Speaking during the event, Chief Nthache noted that most of the cases involve men who defile their own children.

He singled out a case in which a man was recently sentenced to 14 years imprisonments for being found guilty of the act.

Project Officer for the Primary Justice Project in Mwanza, Allan Kazembe pointed out that they are focused on establishing the reasons for the surge in such crimes and finding solutions based on that.
