Malawi’s Youth Parliament To Meet This Month

Written by  Written By Staff Reporter Apr 12, 2017

Malawian youths are expecting to have their affairs looked into, as the Youth parliament is set to be held this month.

Youth Parliament of Malawi (YPM) was initiated to alert the government and all stakeholders about the numerous challenges facing the youth.

Members are drawn from all the country’s 193 constituencies, through district councils.

The initiative is an outreach activity under the parliament of Malawi strategic plan 2016-2020.

According to the Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba, YPM is one way of taking parliament to the citizenry.

This year’s YPM will run from April 16 to 21 and will be held at parliament building in Lilongwe.

The youth parliament was launched in 2012 after it was observed that the Children’s Parliament had no linkage with the Malawi Parliament.
