This Saturday, five time holders of the TNM Super league Silver Strikers will host Nyasa Big Bullets, who have grabbed the top flight league’s a record eight times holders, at the Bingu National Stadium in the capital, Lilongwe.
The strikers are coming from last weekend’s two straight draws in away league engagements played in the south.
The Bullets’ desire is to shrug off their worst league campaign start in recent memory which saw them going a goal down against Mzuzu’s Moyale Barracks and a shocking draws against rookies, Chitipa United.
In an all Malawi Defence Force (MDF) affair, MAFCO and Moyale Barracks will come face to face at the Chitowe ground in Nkhotokota district on the same afternoon.
Playing at home, MAFCO are bubbling with confidence having defeated EPAC by a goal to none at the same venue last weekend. Moyale will be looking forward to replicating their promising start in the league.
A day later, city derbies will be on the card as BE FORWARD Wanderers will host Azam Tigers in a BT derby to be played at the Balaka stadium in Balaka district.
The Wanderers go into this match as very strong favourites as their record in cup games surpasses that of the Tigers.
However, the Lali Lubani boys would not to want to be complacent as they’ve always had it tough with Anyamata Akumpanda.
Super League defending champions Kamuzu Barracks will be at home against Blue Eagles at the Civo stadium in a tie involving the MDF and Malawi Police Service. The match doubles as a Lilongwe derby.
Last weekend, KB failed to use home ground advantage when they went a goal down to Wanderers in the 2017 TNM Super League official opening match played at the same venue.
In the same vein, the Eagles could only manage a draw against Mzuzu’s Mzuni in their season opener played at their very own backyard in Area 30.
The second leg ties of the cup will be played in two weeks’ time. This weekend’s visiting teams will get to be the hosts then.
