ACB to probe Mchacha

The Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB is today set to assess and scrutinise a claim over abuse of office by former cabinet Minister Charles Mchacha.

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition-HRDC leaders Gift Trapence and Luke Tembo have written the ACB to investigate Mchacha.

It is alleged that the Lilongwe Water Board-LWB bought furniture for Mchacha while serving as Deputy Minister for Water Development.

It is also alleged that the LWB paid for Mchacha’s honeymoon as well as his travel and hotel accommodation on personal and political campaign trips.

Mchacha is also the Southern Region Governor for the former governing Democratic Progressive Party-DPP.

The HRDC which has launched a whistleblowing initiative against fraud and corruption, therefore expects the ACB to investigate these allegations.

While confirming receipt of the letter, ACB Director Reyneck Matemba has told the local media that the bureau will look into its content today.
