Former Minister of Lands Symon Vuwa Kaunda has spent a night in the cooler in connection with the public land scam.
Kaunda is allegedly involved in the illegal sale of land belonging to the department of forestry.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB arrested the former Minister yesterday in Lilongwe.
According to ACB’s Senior Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala, Kaunda is suspected to have engineered the sale of the land at Soche in Blantyre.
Kaunda is said to have used his position as minister of lands to sale the land to his then cabinet colleague Charles Mchacha who was the Minister of Irrigation and Water Development as well Deputy President for the then ruling Democratic Progressive Party-DPP in the southern region.
Ndala could not be drawn to reveal when Kaunda is likely to appear before the court.
“Kaunda’s court appearance will depend on his collaboration to give the much needed information to the bureau,” Ndala said.
Kaunda’s arrest has come a week after Mchacha was also nabbed on similar grounds.
