The Polytechnic in Blantyre is expected to reopen tomorrow, three months after its closure.

The institution was shut down on November 26 after a fire gutted one of the hostels which used to occupy 268 students.

This happened on the day students staged protests against security lapse at the Chichiri hostels, where laptops and other items were stolen.

According to the college’s management, students who used to occupy the razed hostel will have to find alternative accommodation.

The students will reportedly receive an accommodation allowance for three months from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs.

The Polytechnic management has been looking for K146 million to support students who were affected by the fire.
