A British national is in police custody in Mwanza district for illegal entry into the country.

Cheryl Ann Dee aged 60 was arrested on Saturday by the immigration authorities at Mwanza border with assistance from the police.

After questioning, she admitted to have entered Malawi fraudulently on a motor bike using unchartered routes.

But she did not give reasons behind her coming to Malawi.

In a statement, Mwanza border immigration publicist Pasqually Zulu explains that a joint investigation by key stakeholders including health officials is underway.

In another development, a 35 year old woman identified as Rose Banda from Thyolo district has been refused exit to South Africa at Mwanza border.

According to Zulu, she was using a passport that belongs to her niece, which is against the country’s immigration laws.

He tells Capital FM that she has since been released on grounds that it was illiteracy that prompted her to use someone’s passport.
