The police in Limbe have arrested four men in connection to a series of robberies and rape cases.

Several items have since been recovered and positively identified by their owners.

In a statement, Limbe Police deputy publicist Widson Nhlane identifies the four as 32-year-old Innocent Kamwendo from Blantyre.

The others from Chiradzulu are Patrick Chiwanda, 44, Fabiano Kathumba aged 23 and 38-year-old Jimmy Magola.

Their arrest follows reports that some women have been assaulted and raped after being offered lifts in vehicles driven by unknown men.

Nhlane explains that after accepting the lift the women would be driven to Machinjiri Area 10 Forest where they would get assaulted, raped and robbed before being dumped.

The suspects were arrested after investigations by the intelligence department of the police who have since recovered items such as cell phones, wrist watch and laptop bags.

Investigations are however continuing to establish more on the syndicate and recover the remaining items.

The suspects are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of robbery with violence and rape.

Nhlane advises the public, mainly women to be mindful of the vehicle they board especially during odd hours.
