The Malawi Police Service (MPS) is working on 500 case files against former Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo.

Information Minister Mark Botomani and his counterpart from Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi have revealed this to journalists in Lilongwe.

The two ministers held an impromptu presser a few hours after Mtambo announced his plans to launch a political movement on Wednesday.

Mtambo announced he had resigned from HRDC and will now fight against executive impunity and arrogance of the DPP regime.

This will be done through the Citizens for Transformation–People Power Movement, in which he endorses the MCP/UTM alliance.

Reacting to this Botomani and Dausi indicated that Mtambo faces cases relating to violent acts that led to destruction of property and loss of lives.

They also disclosed that ICT specialist Daud Suleiman will be invited to explain claims that his sources at State House confided in him how the Democratic Progressive Party-DPP intends to rig the forthcoming presidential poll.
