Ten new cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in Malawi about 24 hours after the Ministry of Health recorded six other cases also in the same period.

The new cases have brought the total number of confirmed cases to 33 including three deaths caused by the deadly disease.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lilongwe on Thursday morning, the Minister of Health Jappie Mhango said that all of the new cases were from an area called Kaliyeka in Lilongwe.

“We had 24 samples and ten of them tested positive,” Mhango said.

The new patients are said to have been in contact with three other people from Kaliyeka who also recently tested positive.

Malawians have since been challenged to take responsibility and follow measures put in place by the authorities in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.

They warn that if people fail to follow the set procedures the figures could drastically increase and more people are likely to die from the pandemic.

Globally, over 2 million people have tested positive and over 180,000 have died.
