President Peter Mutharika has criticized the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) for what he describes as the quasi-religious group’s failure to criticise post electoral violence that engulfed the nation after the disputed 2019 tripartite polls.

Mutharika made the sentiments when he met with the grouping on Wednesday at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.

The president is reported to have opened the meeting with a joke that he was happy to meet with the religious leaders immediately after his resurrection – a sarcastic reference to rumours that he had died.

On the agenda were also issues to do with the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He stated that the country is in its current political situation because some political leaders did not accept results of the previous election while others resorted to violence.

During the meeting, Mutharika argued that the court failed to deliver justice based on law, truth and evidence and that the constitutional court’s judgement was a miscarriage of justice.
