The Blantyre District Health Office is tracking all people believed to have come in contact with a recent Covid-19 case that is based at Chileka.

The patient tested positive on April 26, eight days after returning from Tanzania using an In-Transit – IT private vehicle.

The 47-year-old man is said to have first travelled to Salima on the day of his arrival where he spent three days before coming to Blantyre.

Speaking to Capital FM, Gift Kawalazira who is Director of Health at the Blantyre DHO disclosed that they are currently working with Salima DHO.

“Because We have been in touch with the Salima DHO to follow up on his friends and family members, we have also communicated with officials of the Ma Tours bus company,” Kawalazira said.

He added that the bus he used to travell will be taken for disinfection.

“We are urging passengers of the Ma tours bus which travelled to Blantyre on 18 April 2020 to report to their nearest health office by making phone calls,” Kawalazira added.

There are fears that Malawi could have a surge in the number of positive cases as many people have stopped following the advice they have given in order to stop further spread.

The total number of positive cases of coronavirus in the country is now at 37 including three deaths.

Seven people have so far recovered bringing the number of active cases to 27.
