President Peter Mutharika has lost 18 percent of people who voted for him as well as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the annulled 2019 presidential election to the opposition Tonse Alliance.

This is according to a survey done by the Institute of Public Opinion and Research (IPOR).

Results of the survey have further indicated that 51 per cent of Malawians will vote for the Tonse Alliance leader Lazarus Chakwera.

IPOR has found that Chakwera also fairs better in the Southern Region unlike his performance in the previous vote, a development which is largely attributed to his partnership with Saulos Chilima.

A report on the findings of the survey was revealed in Blantyre on Monday, with seven days left to the fresh presidential election set for June 23.

The survey which was done between 25 May and 3 June, 2020 also rates Chakwera as the most qualified candidate to govern the country.

It further indicates that 33 percent of people will vote for President Peter Mutharika of DPP and 0.2 percent for Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development.
