Main contenders in Tuesday’s Fresh Presidential Elections are holding final campaign activities this afternoon across the country.

State President and DPP/UDF Alliance torchbearer Peter Mutharika, is in the northern region for the first time in over a year trying to convince the people to retain him in office.

Mutharika’s main rival, the Malawi Congress Party-MCP’s Lazarus Chakwera who is leading the Tonse Alliance, is meanwhile set to hold his final rally in the populous slam of Ntandire in Lilongwe.

In Blantyre, Chakwera’s running mate Saulos Chilima’s marathon campaign trail, will come to a close at Njamba Freedom Park following a series of whistle-stop rallies in and around the city.

Before taking the podium at Njamba, Chilima was set to lead thousands of supporters in a freedom march from the high-density Ndirande Township, regarded by many as the country’s political barometer.

Earlier this morning, the estranged State Vice President pleaded with the citizenry to be vigilant and safeguard their vote on Tuesday, by ensuring that ballot boxes are not tampered with.

He made the remarks at Chirimba, Mpemba, Nancholi and other centres during his last leg of whistle-stop rallies.

The official campaign period is expected to be closed at 6 A.M on Sunday June 21, 2020.
