Chakwera Appoints Partial Cabinet

President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed a partial cabinet comprising 5 ministers.

The list comprises Vice President Saulos Chilima who is the Minister responsible for Economic Planning, Development and Public Sector Reforms.

Financial Executive Felix Mlusu is the new Finance Minister and Dowa East legislator Richard Chimwendo Banda is the new Minister of Home Affairs.

Lawyer Modecai Msiska is the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs while Chikosa Silungwe, is the new Attorney General.

Chakwera has also appointed Zangazanga Chikhosi as the Chief Secretary to the Government replacing Lloyd Muhara.

Janet Banda is deputizing Chikhosi.

The new Chief of Staff of State Residences is Prince Kapondamgaga, replacing Peter Mukhitho.

The appointments have attracted public attention as various stakeholders are keenly following, to see how Chakwera will further distribute the ministerial positions.

It is also in the public’s interest, as the size of the cabinet has over the years been a contentious issue, as big , bloated cabinets are regarded as a drain of public resources.

Meanwhile it is yet to be known when the new president will announce the remaining part of his cabinet.
