Malawians are reacting with a mixture of surprise and criticism to the cabinet that was unveiled by President Lazarus Chakwera last night.

Those that are commenting on social media argue that the cabinet does not represent the Tonse Alliance philosophy which preaches inclusiveness.

They emphasize that Chakwera has goofed to bunch up members of the same family in the cabinet.

Well-known social media commentator, Onjezani Kenani questions the appointment of Zodiak Broadcasting Station Managing Director Gospel Kazako as Information Minister arguing the move is a conflict of interest.

Another commentator, Nellie Joseph, writing on her Facebook page however argues that politics allows people whose immerse contributions mattered in the cause for change to be rewarded.

Chakwera has also been criticised for not appointing more women as full ministers with many of them being appointed as deputies.

Out of the 31-member cabinet only four women have been appointed as ministers and seven of them appointed as deputies.

Patricia Kaliati who is the UTM's secretary general is now the minister of community development and social welfare, Agness Nyalonje is minister of education, Khumbidze Kandodo Chiponda has been appointed as minister of health.

Another female cabinet minister is Nancy Tembo who will be heading the ministry of forestry and natural resources.
