A grouping called Youth for Change (YFC) has planned nationwide demonstrations against what it describes as a false cabinet.

President Lazarus Chakwera last night released a 31-member cabinet that has seen members of the same family being appointed.

Among those included in the cabinet are Ken Kandodo who is the Minister of Labour and his sister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, now Minister of Health.

Chakwera has also hired Abida Mia as Deputy Minister of lands as well as her husband Sidik Mia who is Minister of Transport.

Zodiak Broadcasting Station Managing Director, Gospel Kazako is the Information Minister but Agnes Nkusa Nkhoma who is a sister to his late former wife is the Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

The YFC through its Chairperson Constantine Gerrald argues that by hiring people of the same family, it is a clear indication that Ckakwera is rewarding some of the appointees.

Meanwhile, members of the public are questioning the absence of a Minister of Gender in the newly announced cabinet by President Lazarus Chakwera.

The position has in the previous ministerial cabinets been granted as a standalone appointment.

Those that are commenting on social media suggest that the position could be inclusive of Patricia Kaliati’s appointment as Minister of Community Development and Social Welfare.

They, however, argue that the move only indicates that the Chakwera administration has gambled on gender issues in the country.

Four women ministers have been appointed in the cabinet while about seven have been hired as deputy ministers.
