Vice President Saulos Chilima has cancelled his scheduled public reforms engagement with northern region parastatal and district council heads in adherence to coronavirus prevention measures.

Following the escalating Covid-19 situation in the country, the government on Friday announced fresh and stricter measures to contain the pandemic’s spread in cities, towns, municipalities and communities.

In view of this, the VP’s office released a statement confirming cancellation of the Mzuzu meeting which would have attracted a lot of delegates from the whole of the northern region.

Last week, Chilima met with heads of various parastatals, as well as chief executive officers and finance directors of various district councils in the central and southern regions.

The vice president has also engaged with captains of the private sector whom he describes as very critical in the government’s push to achieve reform.

Since the onset of the pandemic in April, Malawi has recorded at least 2,364 confirmed cases, 38 of which have resulted in deaths.
Yesterday alone, authorities confirmed a total of 103 new cases registered.
