Court convicts former MP

The Magistrate Court in Zomba has convicted former Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa Constituency Anderson Undani and his Personal Assistant, Pangani Nazombe on corruption.

Investigations the Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB had established that Undani abused project materials purchased with the Constituency Development Fund at the Zomba District Council.

The funds were meant for projects in his constituency, among them the construction of a teachers’ house at Mapalo F.P. School, construction of toilets at Domasi CCAP Primary school, rehabilitation of Domasi- Kasonga Road and construction of Malonga Bridge.

The two were taken to court where Undani was charged with three counts of abuse of office, theft and obtaining money by false pretence.

Nazombe was charged with aiding another person to commit an offence and obtaining money by false pretence.

On 3rd July, 2020 the court found the two guilty and on 13th July, 2020 it sentenced Anderson Undani to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour on each of the three counts while Pangani Nazombe was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour on each of the two counts.
