The High Court in Blantyre has granted bail to Norman Chisale, a top bodyguard of former President, Peter Mutharika.

Chisale has until the bail decision been held on remand at Chichiri prison in Blantyre on charges of attempted murder.

Chisale’s bail ruling came about an hour after his attempted murder case was committed from the Chief Resident Magistrate to the High Court.

After receiving the certificates of committal from the Director of Public Prosecutions-DPP, the lower court through Chief Resident Magistrate Simeon Mdeza argued that it has no jurisdictions to preside over a murder case.

After the committal of the case, Andrew Salamba, a Senior Assistant Chief State Advocate from the DPP in Blantyre said all is in the hands of the high court to determine the way forward.

The high court has granted the bail with several conditions which include a MK1 million cash bond and two sureties for two of his blood relatives. He has also been ordered to surrender all of his travel documents.

Norman Chisale is being accused of shooting Sigele Amani on May 20 this year at Chimwankhunda Township in Blantyre.

Apart from the case in mention, Chisale is also expected to answer a case in relation to the importation of duty free cement worth over  K5 billion in the name of his boss, former President Mutharika.
