The German government has committed £28.1 million towards health, social protection and economic development in Malawi.

According to the German Ambassador to Malawi Jürgen Borsch, the funds are part of their financial commitment to support the new government in implementing its reform agenda.

Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu has since appreciated Germany’s commitment to providing Malawi both financial and technical support.

The Financial Cooperation Agreement has been signed at a time Mlusu is drafting the new 2020/2021 national budget.

The funds will also help to improve health service delivery through Health Services Joint Fund and social protection through Social Cash Transfer Programme.

They will also help to expand the UNDP support to innovative private sector entrepreneurs through the Malawi Innovation Challenge Fund and Growth Accelerator.
