Three nabbed over cement theft in Likoma

Police in Likoma are keeping in custody three men for allegedly stealing 70 bags of cement worth MK630, 000.
                     
The suspects are William Edson, 32 (foreman) from Lile Village, Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka, Sydney Mphande, 45, (security guard) from Chikolechi Village,Traditional Authority Kaluluma in Kasungu and Wellos Petro, 27 (security guard), from Gamba Village in T.A. Makwangwala in Ntcheu.

Likoma Police Publicist, Sub Inspector Mcliff Ngulube said the complainant, Liu Zhenjiang who is Manager for Liu Construction Company erecting solar panel schemes at Likoma and Chizumulu Islands, delivered 200 bags of cement at Chizumulu plant site on Friday, July 17, 2020.

Ngulube said thereafter, on Sunday, July 26, the manager was surprised to learn that Chizumulu plant site had run short of bags of cement and he asked the plant supervisor to conduct stock taking.

"It was discovered that 70 bags of cement were missing. The matter was reported to Likoma Police Station and officers visited the scene of crime.

"Investigations carried out led to the arrest of the three suspects on Monday, July 27, 2020, who confessed that they stole the bags of cement in question," said Ngulube.

Ngulube said the trio will appear in court soon to answer a charge of theft by servant.
