Malawi to host development conference

Malawi is expected to hold its first ever National Development Conference in Lilongwe, next week.

The event to be held on Thursday and Friday has been organised by the National Planning Commission (NPC).

It is expected to take stock, discuss and accelerate national development priorities.

In a statement, the NPC discloses that President Lazarus Chakwera will officially open the National Development Conference which will be held under the theme: ‘Beyond Political Freedom to Inclusive Wealth Creation and Self-reliance’.

The conference is set to provide a platform where citizens, state and non-state actors and development partners discuss emerging issues.

This is in regard to the National Transformation 2063, the envisioned successor to Vision 2020. The statement further explains that the conference will be a hybrid of virtual and limited physical participation to be coordinated from the BICC in Lilongwe.

This will be done in line with COVID-19 preventive measures.Going forward, the Conference will also be used as a platform for experts to take stock and discuss how to accelerate agreed national development priorities.
