State President Lazarus Chakwera has redeployed Vincent Nundwe to the position of the Commander of the Malawi Defence Force.

Nundwe was fired by former President Peter Mutharika in March this year.

Speaking during a brief address to the nation on Tuesday afternoon Chakwera indicated that he had made the decision as a way to heal the injury and injustice of an unfair decision inflicted on the country’s military.

“Following this corrective decision I will be meeting the Defence Council to discuss the appointed of a new deputy commander and other measures that the constitution allows me to implement,” Chakwera added.

Nundwe’s firing in March came after a wave anti-government demonstrations in which the army was accused of not taking a tough stance.
