The Government is expressing serious concern over the growing trend by some Malawian nationals to travel abroad using uncharted routes.

It follows persistent reports of sets of Malawians being intercepted in Mozambique and Zimbabwe apparently on their way to South Africa.

A recent Foreign Affairs Ministry statement shows that government resources are currently under strain to process the repatriation of some 4,500 Malawians stranded in South Africa.

The statement also contends that it is illogical for people to continue trekking to a country where many of their compatriots are facing various hardships.

The authorities have since appealed to Malawians to desist from traveling to other countries where Covid-19 lockdown measures are yet to be lifted.
