The Blantyre City Council (BCC) has ordered all vendors plying their trade along the streets to move to designated markets.

This follows continued concerns raised by the public over the vendors who congest the city’s streets.

In a statement posted on their Facebook wall, the BCC indicates that the order will come into effect on Friday, at midnight.

Failure to comply with the order is expected to compel the Council to use lawful means of forcing them out.

The statement further states that the Council’s will be in markets to assist in allocating space for all vendors.

Those who erected structures along the roads without the BCC’s approval have also been ordered to immediately take down the structures.

The Council threatens to demolish roadside structures that have not been removed.
