The former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has fired its vice president for the south Kondwani Nankhumwa as leader of opposition in Parliament.

A top party official who asked not to be mentioned has confirmed the development to Capital FM saying Nsanje Central legislator Francis Kasaila has been nominated as Nankhumwa’s replacement.

It comes barely weeks after the Mulanje Central MP and party presidential hopeful was summoned by the DPP disciplinary committee for imposing himself as opposition leader over George Chaponda.

The party also wants Nankhumwa to clear himself of accusations that he has all along been using his late brother’s identity and certificates.

Meanwhile, the Speaker’s office is expected to make an official announcement regarding the development as Chief Public Relations Officer for Parliament.
