The Directorate of Public Officers’ Declarations is this month set to open satellite offices in local councils in order to maximize submission of asset reports by public officers.
It follows the opening of the final submission window for annual declarations for the year 2020/2021.
The directorate was established to promote transparency and check abuse of taxpayers’ funds by public officers.
In a statement, Director of the office, Michael Chiusiwa, highlights that annual declarations are submitted within 30 days upon commencement of each fiscal year.
In this regard, listed public officers have until 30 July 2021 to submit their annual declarations following commencement of the 2021/2022 fiscal year yesterday.
Chiusiwa indicates that the temporary satellite offices will ensure that public officers who may not manage to make their submissions directly at the directorate’s office in Lilongwe have no excuse for noncompliance.
The satellite offices, according to the statement, are set to become operational by 19 July, 2021.
