Government taking on board public input on clearing the rubble

The Public Service Systems Review Taskforce is commending Malawians for providing input and proposals on sanitising the public sector.

Three weeks ago, the taskforce led by Vice President Saulos Chilima, appealed to the public and stakeholders to share input to the team by March 21.

The review process is based on  the system of allowances, procurement, employment contracts, conditions of service, and restructuring of the public service.

In a statement, Public Sector Reforms Public Relations Officer McCarthy Mwalwimba, explains that the taskforce will analyse all the submissions it has received in the past three weeks.

Mwalwimba stresses that the public input will  be in the recommendation report  that is to be submitted to President Lazarus Chakwera within 90 days, ending on May 24, 2021.

President Chakwera ordered the review process following a public outcry over the alleged plunder of K6.2 billion Covid-19 funds.

A preliminary report indicated that a huge part of the money for Covid-19 response was spent on allowances by public officers.
