The Lilongwe Magistrates Court has found guilty former Acting Registrar of the Industrial Relation Court in Lilongwe on counts of solicitation.

Brian Katimba, was arrested in 2014 following a complaint from two Burundians who won a compensation case at the courts.

The two were given 300 thousand kwacha each as compensation for unfair dismissal out of which Katimba demanded 100 thousand kwacha.

According to the Public Relation Officer of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Egritta Ndala, Katimba has been found guilty on two counts  of corrupt practices by public officer and abuse of office contrary to Section 24 (1) and 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act respectively.

Katimba was sentenced to 12 months and eight months imprisonment with hard labour on each of the two counts respectively.

The sentence will however be suspended considering that solicited funds were recovered and that he lost his job.
