MEC commences registration of voters

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is notifying the general public that registration of voters and inspection of voters roll will be conducted on 10th and 11th October 2019.

According to statement signed by the Chief Election Officer Sam Alfandika all those who registered for the May 21st tripartite elections need not to register again, but they have to go at the center where they registered for verification.

Those who will be able to register must be eighteen years or above or will attain the voting age on last day of voter registration which is the 11th October 2019.

The statement further indicates that first time voters are advised to bring their national ID or the registration slip they were given by the National Registration Bureau as evidence.

The commission is also appealing to traditional leaders, faith groups, parents and teachers to encourage all who have not registered to go and register

MEC is further reminding all political parties’ and aspirants that nomination papers are available for collection from the constituents/ward returning officers and council headquarters.

The commission will receive nomination papers on 16th October, but aspirant are being advised to present their nomination papers on 15th October for pre-inspection at their constituency or ward returning officers.
