Four children have died after drowning in the Shire River at the upstream side of Tedzani Power Station pond.

The accident happened on Sunday when six children from surrounding villages aged between 2 and 4 were playing in the river. These details are contained in a statement issued by the Electricity Generation Company-EGENCO last night.

According to EGENCO management, actual details about the accident remain sketchy and police investigations are underway. The electricity company explains that they had to lower the waters in the pond to retrieve the bodies.

Meanwhile, only one machine is operating at Tedzani three while machines at Tedzani one and two are at stand still. Works are in progress to build the pond to resume running of the machines that are at standstill.
