People living next to Sierra Leone's biggest diamond mine have taken the government to court over failing to protect them from alleged environmental problems caused by the company that runs it.

The complaint, filed at a West African regional court, said water had been contaminated and houses damaged by blasts at the mine.

It also said the government had failed to ensure the company, Octea Limited, relocated hundreds of families away from the site.

Octea described similar allegations made in an earlier court case as baseless.

The Sierra Leonean government also rejects the accusations.
