Local youth football is expected to take a positive direction, as coaches are being drilled by the Council for Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) in Blantyre.

The workshop is part of the COSAFA U17 youth championship legacy initiative as Malawi is set to host the 2019 edition this coming weekend. This is a four day coaching course where trainers are expected to get a D license certificate.

According to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Technical Director John Kaputa, the coaching workshop will help trainers to work with young players from the grassroots.

Kaputa explains that youth football has retrogressed in past years due to a lack of well-trained coaches to identify and nature talent.
