Former Chief Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara has been charged with two counts of misuse of office and neglect of official duties.
This follows his alleged role in approving the lease of land without supporting documents to former Minister of Irrigation and Water Development, Charles Mchacha.
Muhara surrendered himself to the Anti-Corruption Bureau – ACB in response to a warrant of arrest for his alleged involvement in the fraudulent land purchase deal.
Muhara who is also a judge of the High Court of Malawi did not take plea as the Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB will be re-submitting an application for consent to the Director of Public Prosecution.
This follows the replacement of former Director of Public Prosecutions-DPP Mary Kachale with Steven Kayuni.
Earlier, the ACB netted former cabinet members Symon Vuwa Kaunda and Charles Mchacha as well as Defence Ministry PS Bright Kumwembe over the same case involving the sale of Kanjedza Forest Reserve.
