Nomads, Bullets fined over Derby mess

The Super League of Malawi – SULOM has punished Mighty Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets following acts of misconduct during their recent derby on 1 May.

The derby at Kamuzu Stadium was abandoned in the late stages with the score tied at one-all.

SULOM’s disciplinary committee has fined the Nomads and the Bullets 1.6 million Kwacha and 500,000 Kwacha respectively payable within 30 days.

Furthermore, Wanderers’ defender Stanley Sanudi has been slapped with a 2 match suspension, while the controversial match’s referees have been recommended for disciplinary action by the National Referees Committee.

Wanderers have been convicted of failure to control actions of supporters and direct interruption or disturbance of the normal proceedings of a game.

Bullets have been found guilty of the offence of invading the pitch by a supporter who poured some liquid on Wanderers goal.

The disciplinary committee has also faulted the police for firing teargas which, it states, led to the abandonment of the game.

Meanwhile the committee has clearly stated that all the parties involved have the right to appeal within 48 hours on payment of the requisite appeals fees, if they are not satisfied with the determination.
