Police still investigating Ndirande handcuffing incident

The Malawi Police Service is still investigating facts behind an unusual cuffing of a suspect while in custody at Ndirande Police station in Blantyre.

The 35-year-old suspect, Yohane Mkoko, was arrested on May 10 for allegedly breaking into a building where he committed theft.

He was apparently kept in handcuffs for several days leading to his hands becoming heavily bruised due to prolonged period of being shackling.

Speaking to Capital FM Spokesperson for the Malawi Police Service James Kadadzera, has disclosed that they are waiting for a report from their Professional Standards Unit.

Kadadzera further states that the police will make the report public when the unit makes it available.
